Irelia, the Will of the Blades


Irelia is an unique bruiser.  Her resistance to crowd control allows her to relentlessly hunt down her foes.  She has been historically nerfed for being too strong but has never lost her competitive abilities. Irelia's mobility and true damage makes her an effective killer in and out of lane.  Irelia is strongest middle to late game and will snowball if fed early however she falls off in the very late game as her damage will plateau. Stop her early or suffer the consequences.

Countering Irelia is most easily done during the early game.  She is relatively weaker then most bruisers until her Q, Bladesurge and W, Hiten Style are leveled up.  She will most likely lose trades early but win them as the game progresses.  Ask your jungler for help for added pressure on Irelia.  Keeping her under leveled is key to effectively removing her from the game.  During team fights, try not to waste Crowd Control on Irelia as it is relatively ineffective against her and would be more productive against other champions.  Irelia will target squishy carries, attempt to kite and kill her before she kills her target.

- Irelia is very versatile with item builds she can adapt to her opponent without sacrificing sustain or damage output.


- Her passive makes her very resistance to crowd control, with Mercury Treads her tenacity can be as high as 67%.


- With the exception of hard counter situations it is nearly impossible to deny Irelia farm.


- Irelia deals magic and physical damage as well as burst true damage.  A good Irelia will adapt to her opponent and exploit their weakness.

- Irelia has a weak early game.  Try to force exchanges before the damage from her Q, Bladesurge and W, Hiten Style scale too high.


- She is very susceptible to early ganks and can be held back by pressure from the jungle.


- Irelia's ultimate Transcendent Blades is relatively weak.


-  Her one crowd control Equilibrium Strike is situational get her to use it to slow instead of stun.


- Irelia is a thirsty champion with regards to mana in the early game, force her to use her mana to farm and attack when it's low.
